I would like to thank Mitsubishi Corporation and UPM for financial and material support.

Research grants from various Malaysian government agencies mainly Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) have supported many research projects and graduate students.

I also acknowledge the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP) based in Niigata, Japan for joining in the research group to study the effects of acid deposition on forest ecosystem.

I would also like to thank all the researchers, undergraduate and graduate students for their commitment to research.

The eco-tour participants from Japan have never missed a single year in the planting ceremony for the last 20 years.

This project is dedicated to our future generations in their pursuit of scientific knowledge and a cleaner environment.

We do not inherit the forests from our forefathers, we merely borrow them from our children”.
